Elder Holland is a great public speaker. He was president of BYU when I joined the Church, and his voice is one of the voices of conversion for me. I love that man.
Can someone tell me what President Hinckley said about the Perpetual Education Fund? I missed it.
He said that it is growing and helping more and more. I can’t remember that he said much more about the fund.
Didn’t the Church recently purchase some groung at South Mountain? That might be the site of the temple in the Salt Lake valley. Also, a golf course in Twin Falls was purchased.
Maybe they’ll waive the greens fees for session-goers?
Or maybe this is just one-stop shopping for seniors.
He just spoke at our stake conference in August. It was one of the most powerful experiences I have had.

What was the comment about partnering with a commercial printer on the Book of Mormon from President Hinckley? Does anyone know what that is about… is the church just outsourcing to reduce cost or is there something more?
Basically, there is going to be a commercial version avialable in bookstores, printed by (I think) Penguin books, as part of a World Religions imprint (along with the Koran/Quran/Qu’ran, etc.). It’ll cost around 25 bucks, and its basically for those who want to get a copy without having missionaries over or contacting a member of the church. It will make it more widely available for scholars and libraries as well, and give the BoM a bit more respectability amongst the general culture.
The church will still continue to print the “normal” versions we all (should) have.
It’s a Doubleday edition of the Book of Mormon that will be sold in retail stores nationwide.
“The new hardcover edition will reflect design changes introduced by Doubleday to make the volume more easily read and understood by a non-Mormon audience, but will remain faithful to the text itself.Â
For example, the new edition will not include the exhaustive cross-references and index included in the volume used by Church members. Footnotes have been eliminated, and the approximate dates at the bottom of many pages will appear in the brief chapter headings. A special seven-page Reference Guide will be included to help orient the reader who is less familiar with the Church and its teachings.”

Back in the good old days, conference weekend games were always on Friday night, and for quite a while the opponent was Utah State. But, now it seems that the football team has more important things to do that Saturday evening than have the men go to priesthood meeting.
Perhaps it’s like the fireman/policeman/doctor/nurse on the Sabbath excuse. Somebody must have decided that it’s more important to play that silly game than listen to the prophet.
Whatd’ya think of Pres. Hinckley’s talk on “the women in our lives”? In light of the recent sub-thread on “Eve” (which was the best part of the latest scandalous sex thread), I’d be interested in hearing some thoughts about Pres. Hinckley’s referring to Eve as the “last creation”. It almost sounded as if he was saying “ultimate” when he said “last”.

II loved his talk, esp. the well-constructed line about Mary as the first witness to the Resurrection and how those who profess to follow Christ sometimes don’t follow him in valuing women. It reflects a sad state of affairs in the Church and in the world when the Prophet has to remind people to be nice to their spouses and to not belittle women.

President Hinckley for a long time had the assignment of dealing with abuse issues and has some strong feelings on the topic.
I loved Elder Oak’s talk in the priesthood session, but the glint off his head was very distracting (I’m not joking). Ever since they moved to the conference center, they have had reflection problems in GC.
I loved the arrangement of Adam-ondi-Ahman. When I heard the music strike up I thought, Woah, looks like were going to have a [i]Mormon[/i] conference.
