A Scripture for Thanksgiving

It’s one of my favorites, and particularly applicable during the Thanksgiving season (so of course I didn’t think to post it until now):

Alma 34:38

That ye contend no more against the Holy Ghost, but that ye receive it, and take upon you the name of Christ; that ye humble yourselves even to the dust, and worship God, in whatsoever place ye may be in, in spirit and in truth; and that ye live in thanksgiving daily, for the many mercies and blessings which he doth bestow upon you.

It’s a scripture that I had read before, but first noticed on my mission. I like the imagery of the last line: The phrase “live in thanksgiving daily” suggests that giving thanks is more than just a word or a thought, but is actually a way of life. And this verse also calls to mind the many blessings that God gives us all — which I for one all too often forget. It’s a great image, of showing our thanks through our actions. And I know that if I can remember to live in thanksgiving daily for the many blessings that I have been given, then I will be moving in the right direction.

Happy (belated) Thanksgiving, everyone!

  1. Thank you Kami for reminding us that Thanksgiving is not truly about Turkey and football but about giving thanks to the Lord for all that he has given us; which in truth is everything we have.

We should be thanking him every day both in prayer, and in the very way we live. As Christ said, “If ye love me keep my commandments.”
