5 things to do while waiting for Feminist Mormon Housewives to return

Feminist Mormon Housewives is one of our favorite bloggernacle blogs, with a strong core of bloggers, a variety of smart and lively posts, and a great community. Unfortunately, FMH has been down for the past two days, a victim of the patriarchy — err, of a server crash.

Lisa is optimistic that the blog will be up and running again soon. (Crosses fingers.) Meanwhile, what’s an FMH reader supposed to do in the interim? Here is one list of ideas:

1. Go check out the FMH Facebook group, where a variety of fun and interesting FMH-related discussions are taking place, with FMH bloggers like mfranti and Derek.

2. Read some other LDS women’s blogs. The Exponent is a great place to start, with more topic and tone overlap with FMH than just about anyone else. Zelophehad’s Daughters offers a wicked-smart take on Mormon and feminist issues. And you can also check out the Feminist section of MormonBlogs.

3. Brush up on other sources. For instance, did you know that the entire text of Mormon feminist classic Women and Authority is available online? (What other books are you reading lately?)

4. Check out the individual blogs of community members, like mfranti’s blog, Shelah’s, Reese’s, Derek’s, Lessie’s, John Remy’s, Chandelle’s, G’s, CWC’s, and others.

(Suggestions welcome)

5. Make comments at this open thread. We want to do what we can to support our blog-sisters; and we can’t personally fix a server; but we do have a blog spot here. And so if you’d like to comment about FMH; express support; ask questions (and maybe even receive answers); or engage in any related conversations, we can offer this thread to help out.

NEW #6. Go check out the new open thread at Mfranti’s blog; have a cup of tea, and tell her what you think about her link.

Get better soon, FMH!

    Kaimi, you are the man.

I just emailed Reese, after coming to the conclusion that, after four days, I might not be the one with the problem!

While I appreciate the alternatives and certainly do not mean any offense, there is no substitute for Fmh.

This must be what residents at Betty Ford feel like.

I wondered what was going on. I tried to get to a couple of fmh posts to no avail. I’m glad to learn it’s not just me.

It has definitely been a tough few days. We were in the midst of this interesting discussion on using welfare while in college. Apparently the discussion was so heated that it fried the server.

hahahaha…. StillConfused, I didn’t realize the irony of that until now. Of all the posts for the server to crash on…. Let this be a lesson to us all!

Oh, and I <3 fmh. And have been in a sad, murky fog for the last 3 days without it. First aid might be in order shortly.

mfranti, I did and spent the next twenty minutes trying to comment on your very scary Republicanairy poll. Maybe the problem is me? Do I have to admit here on T&S that I can’t figure out how to post a comment on your site? Oh, the shame.

    Thanks for sustaining us, Kaimi!

    Any time. :)

    Get better, y’all.

    I want my fMh! Waaaah!

Thanks for the shout-out for ZD, Kaimi. I’m only sorry we’re such slackers and haven’t blogged since the semester started.

And it’s been a week, but I finally wrote up the Niblet results. fMh won the write-in for best community. Hooray! If you can stand a whole lot of bar charts, come on over to Mormon Matters for a look.

I’ve been filling my time by actually reading the posts that pop up through my Google Reader. Thanks for the shout-out, Kaimi. Oh, and catching up on laundry and writing projects that never seem to get done with the diversion of fMh right in front of me.

  13. February 8, 2010 at 3:51 pm

Oh yeah, writing projects. I suppose that *would* be a good use of my time, huh.

Personally I’ve been spending my time eating candy and hanging out on the couch. And thinking over and over again, “There’s *something* I should be doing, but I can’t put my finger on it.”

Haha, Reese….. I feel ya. I am getting in a lotta of candy and couch time.

Here’s a thought…. I could write in my journal! Poor thing’s been neglected for a couple months now.

    Natalie, here’s mine:

It’s a really handy template. Feel free to borrow it if you like. ;)

    Here’s a handy illustration for your journal, Ziff: http://xkcd.com/386/ . :)

Exactly! Thanks, Kaimi–I was blatantly stealing from that comic, but I couldn’t remember the source. So thanks for pointing it out.

That comment is so painfully true. Maybe with FMH down, I will actually have a real life outside of my computer for a while (or I’ll just stare at the screen waiting for it to come back . . . )

Oops – I meant that *comic* is painfully true

they say “restoration is still running smoothly”

is this unusually slow, I’ve never had a crashed server before.

  21. February 8, 2010 at 7:50 pm

I don’t know how fast or slow things like that are, but if it’s “restoration,” that’s gotta be a good thing for a Mormon blog.

It takes a long time to go through and correct all the plain and simple truths corrupted by good commentors led away by the traditions of their fathers…
