Bloggernacking Opportunity:
Over at Doctrinal.net, DP is looking for “aspiring conservative bloggers” to potentially guest blog. While this probably rules out some commenters and readers here — such as any of the BCC folk — it may be an opportunity that some T & S readers would want to look into (note: e-mail or comment to him about it, not me, thanks).

Music and Art:
Organist extraordinaire D. Fletcher brought to my attention a new Mormon art and music CD called Mormoniana. It’s a project involving original art and composition by a great group of Mormon artists. If you like music and art (and who doesn’t like music and art?), you may want to check out their web site for more information. (Sticker-shock warning: The new CD is a bit on the pricey side).

  1. It isn’t just a CD, you know, it’s a hand-bound, silk-covered book with the full notated score, a signed original art print, 16 color plates of the other artworks (I did the color-correction in Photoshop — they’re stunningly beautiful) and a terrific essay by Michael Hicks.

It’s really for collectors, they’re only making 175. We’ve already sold something like 75, and they’ve only been available for 2 days. So, I think they’ll be gone, pretty soon.

Hey, thanks for the epithet ‘extraordinaire.’

    :)

  2. Once upon a sunday, when visiting my mother’s ward, I heard the most beautiful prelude music coming from the chapel. I thought, what could this be? Who has arranged some of our restoration hymns after the manner of J.S. Bach? As I entered the chapel I saw that it was Micheal Hicks improvising at the organ.

I’ve read a few of his essays – good stuff. Hicks’ presence alone lends credibility to this project. (let alone the rest of the all star line up including D. Fletcher!) Looking forward to it.

  3. Why not just put the sticker out here:

Mormoniana will be available starting in May 2004.

The limited edition volume (which includes the full musical score, CD recording, original art and essay) is priced at $150.

The deluxe edition (with contents identical to the above volume, autographed by all of the collaborators and with the additional original print) is priced at $500.

Copies of the limited edition and deluxe edition of Mormoniana will be available in May 2004; items will be sold and shipped in the order requests are received.

That does imply there will be a regular edition that sells for less than $150.00.

    Any news on that one?

  4. Hi, I represent the distributor of the volume, Mormon Arts and Letters. I’m happy to answer any questions.

First, I agree with D. Fletcher — the volumes are moving very fast. I think they may last a month, so if you are interested in these editions, you should move fast.

Second, we are planning a more reasonably priced edition, but that edition will only go on sale AFTER the much nicer limited editions are sold. In addition, the less expensive editions won’t include the artwork (we only have permission to include the artwork in a certain number of copies).

Third, I can say that a CD of the music will be available for sale in the near future. I’d be happy to post here when the CD is available.

Please feel free to look over the volume’s website mormoniana.com, which includes a pdf of the prospecuts and anything you might want to know about the project. Of course, if you have a question that the website doesn’t answer, feel free to drop me a line.
